Abstract. In this paper two color spaces - YUV and RG were compared and described with possible human-computer interaction applications taken account. Human perception-oriented properties were compared, where not only file size or bandwidth were included, but also subjective visibility of artifacts. The amount of 1700 tests were performed on a group of 170 people in order to describe the subjective quality of compressed YUV and RGB images. In this work the use of the YUV color space for a machine vision implementation was presented and the result of the research proved that YUV was able to provide much better subjective image quality than the RGB color space. The authors of this paper concluded that YUV was better for machine vision implementations than RGB due to the perceptual similarities to the human vision.
